WASHINGTON – Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) and Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), Co-Chairmen of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (U.S. Helsinki Commission), will hold a hearing entitled, “Green and Mean: Can the new U.S. economy be both climate-friendly and competitive?” on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in room B-318 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
The hearing will examine the impact of pending climate remediation policies on carbon-intensive U.S. industries, and the need to create climate-friendly economic and trade policies. The hearing will also address how the current financial crisis impacts the implementation of climate-friendly policies within the United States and among our major trading partners; and how U.S. leadership on climate change can effectively drive action in other countries, in particular the participating States of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
