Chairman Cardin Meets with Hungarian Prime Minister Bajnai

WASHINGTON – .S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), Chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (U.S. Helsinki Commission) today met with Hungarian Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai. (Photo here.)

“I am happy to have had this opportunity to meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Bajnai. Hungary is an important partner in the transatlantic alliance. The Prime Minister and I had a positive meeting. We discussed a number of issues, including our common concern about Roma in the OSCE region,” Senator Cardin said. “I commend him for his bold leadership in seeking to improve their situation in Hungary.”

In explaining the need for the broad, multifaceted approach Hungary is taking to improve the integration of Roma, Prime Minister Bajnai said, “If you do only one thing, it will be lost in the mud of hopelessness.”
