Helsinki Commission Chair Praises Latest Round of Russia Sanctions

WASHINGTON—Following today’s announcement by the Trump administration of new sanctions on Russian oligarchs, officials, and entities, Helsinki Commission Chairman Sen. Roger Wicker (MS) issued the following statement:

“The administration’s decisive actions today strike hard at Vladimir Putin’s inner circle and remind Russia and the world that the United States stands with the oppressed, not the oppressors. These steps are designed to isolate those who have impoverished the Russian people and act as trustees for corrupt officials in the Kremlin looking to hide their illicit wealth. I stand with President Trump in holding the Russian regime accountable, even as we continue to engage those elements of Russian society that remain open to genuine partnership.”
