Armenia’s upcoming parliamentary election takes place as Yerevan weighs difficult choices about peace, security, and regional integration. The vote comes as Armenia advances a fragile peace process with Azerbaijan, pursues normalization with Turkey, and seeks a stronger role in regional trade and connectivity. These external considerations carry political weight at home, where the legacy of the Nagorno-Karabakh war will shape how Armenian voters assess their country’s security and future. With an increasingly authoritarian government in Georgia, Armenia represents the greatest hope for democracy in the South Caucasus.
This briefing will discuss the stakes of upcoming elections in Armenia, including for regional stability, democracy, and Western integration. Drawing on recent elections and political developments in Georgia, Moldova, and Hungary, panelists will assess Russia’s ability to exploit domestic divisions, manipulate the information environment, and weaponize unresolved security questions to influence political outcomes.
