Senator Tom Udall began serving as United States Senator in 2009, after two decades of public service as U.S. Representative and New Mexico’s Attorney General. He has served as a member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (the Helsinki Commission) since 2009. Currently in his fifth term on the Commission, Udall is committed to promoting cross-national dialogue and unifying international efforts on issues from human rights to global warming.
As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Udall has focused on policies that will keep America safe, promote democracy, and foster international development and conservation. He serves on the Subcommittees on Western Hemisphere and Global Narcotics Affairs; Africa and Global Health Policy; and International Development and Foreign Assistance, Economic Affairs, International Environmental Protection, and Peace Corps.
In addition, Senator Udall is a member of the Senate Appropriations; Commerce; and Rules and Administration committees; and is the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. He also serves as a Senate co-chairman of the International Conservation Caucus.
