U.S. Congressman Robert Aderholt, who serves Alabama’s 4th Congressional District, is currently serving his tenth term on the U.S. Helsinki Commission. Congressman Aderholt strongly supports the Commission’s goals of maintaining, securing and promoting democracy in Europe and advancing American ideals and interests abroad.
In Congress, Aderholt sits on the House Appropriations Committee where he serves as Chairman of the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee. As Chairman, he supports greater transparency, accountability and oversight to the appropriations process. Aderholt is also a member of the Commerce, Justice & Science Subcommittee and the Defense Subcommittee. Through his service on these committees, Aderholt has promoted support for democracies around the world, both emerging and well established, particularly in Europe.
During his tenure on the Helsinki Commission, the Congressman has been an active participant in the annual Parliamentary Assembly (PA) and formerly served as Vice President of the PA. He also served two terms as Vice Chair of the Third Committee (which addresses humanitarian and human rights-related issues). Aderholt believes that stable, open and free democracies are the only true path to establishing long-term peace in Europe and around the world.
