U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (IL-14) has been serving on the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Commission) since 2015 and actively works to promote human rights, stability, and security in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) region. As a Commissioner, Hultgren has placed special priority in protecting religious liberties, preventing human rights violations, combating human trafficking, and preventing Russian aggression into neighboring countries.
Congressman Hultgren’s concern for human rights is central to his daily work in the U.S. House of Representatives where he supports legislation and other efforts to raise awareness of and protect abused people groups around over the world. This includes legislation targeted at preventing the recruitment of child soldiers, protecting religious and ethnic minorities from persecution, and his own bill to stifle the demand for sex slavery and protect victims of human trafficking.
In addition to serving on the Helsinki Commission, Congressman Hultgren is Co-Chairman of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, which promotes international human rights through hearings, briefings and other awareness-building activities, and by providing expertise on key issues. Congressman Hultgren is also a Commissioner on the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, where among other activities he works to raise awareness about political prisoners who are being deprived of civil and political rights by their own government.
In 2011, Congressman Hultgren was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives to represent the 14th District of Illinois which includes the suburban collar counties of Chicago. He serves on Financial Services and Science, Space and Technology Committees. Prior to this he served both in the Illinois Senate and Illinois House of Representatives.
