This hearing, which Hon. Gus Yatron, chairman of the Subcommittee on Human Rights and International Organizations, presided over, discussed the plight of the Jewish population in what was then the Soviet Union. Specifically, the hearing discussed this mistreatment as it related to United States foreign policy, specifically the Jackson-Vanik amendment, and new human rights initiatives to address the mistreatment in question.
