WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), Chairman of the U.S. Helsinki Commission and Co-Chairman Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) invite you to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the death of Russian anti-corruption lawyer Sergei Magnitsky with the world premier of “Justice for Sergei,” a film about the anti-corruption lawyer’s life and death. Sergei Magnitsky, who blew the whistle on a $230 million tax fraud involving senior Russian officials, died Nov. 16, 2009, in a Russian prison after being repeatedly denied medical treatment. Those responsible for the crime have yet to be punished. This film marks the first time since Sergei’s death that his family and friends have spoken publicly about the false arrest and torture of the man who died trying to expose the corruption gripping his country. This global premier is taking place at the parliaments of the European Union, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Estonia reflecting the international outrage stemming from this case.
