WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), Chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (U.S. Helsinki Commission) and Co-Chairman Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) will hold a briefing:

A new international convention is in the works aimed at helping resource-rich developing countries make the best economic and social use of their natural resources. The Natural Resource Charter aims to provide a blue-print for successful resource management. This briefing will be a forum to discuss the Charter principles, how it is being accepted around the world and how it complements other resource initiatives, such as the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), and programs by international lending institutions.
